Is James Edwards Worthy of Your Vote?

Here is why the NSEF does not trust James Edwards, as he is running for Mayor.  We urge you all to watch the following videos in full.  You will see several councillors that took issue with supporting this motion but in the end, they all voted in favor of it.  All but James Edwards.

The NSEF made a presentation on February 23, 2021, to the CBRM Mayor and Council about equalization.  Here is the link:

(On the right side of the video you will see item 5.1 is the NSEF.  Just click on that and you will be shown that portion of the video)

We then asked the Mayor and Council, with the help of Councillor Gordon MacDonald, to present 5 questions to the Nova Scotia Provincial Government from the Mayor and Council, about equalization.  That meeting took place on July 6th, 2021.  Here is that link:

https://video.isilive.ca/cbrm/Regional%20Council%20Part1%20July%2006_2021.mp4.html

(Again, just click on item 3.3 equalization on the right-hand side of the video)

James Edwards, who is now running for Mayor, was the only councillor who voted against the CBRM sending the 5 questions as coming from the Mayor and Council. Why? He also referred to the NSEF as a "special interest group".

James Edwards, in our opinion, does not deserve the position of Mayor of the CBRM.  He has shown his true colors with regards to equalization so make sure you question him on that when he knocks on your door looking for your vote.  Ask him why the CBRM only gets $15 million out of $3.284 billion that Ottawa is sending.

James Edwards would not be a mayor that would move us forward.

Equalization should occur naturally/organically for any Municipality in Nova Scoyia who elect 13{in our case} non partisan, street smart common sense individuals to fill the seats in City Hall.If you fail to do this, and it happens here all the time, you pay the price.Vote, get your friends, family and co workers to vote also and think hard and lets turn this ship around. This tradition of continually voting for incumbants is nonsense. If they faiied in the past toss them out and many of the current ones did fail.
Joe Ward Follow Me
That's not going to happen. We need a leader that can steer the random 12-pack that will have many partisans.

I agree but ya just gotta keep up the messaging until some day it breaks thru. Some of our folks traditionally get in and have to do absolutely nothing to get in again. Then people sit around and complain. We do it to ourselves.

I agree. I'm trying to do difficult task of letting people know they shouldn't be selecting based on signs, generic promises, or popularity. Most of the people that are the most fun, the most charismatic, and adored that I know give no thought to politics. We don't need to hang out with our dentist on weekends, but we need them to be great at giving pain free fillings.

Regarding the federal Equalization transfers, the CBRM councillors and mayors for decades (except for John Morgan) have shown their undeserved reverence and political fealty towards senior levels of government who have manipulated the spending of these federal billions of dollars despite the cost to their constituents. Despite the obvious lack of explanation by government to how this financial manipulation is constitutional, there is also the obvious legal manipulation by both the federal and provincial governments, which the last three federal ministers of justice have refused to address or respond to. Apparently, this is not regarded by the CBRM government as a serious disrespect to them, or, more importantly, to their constituents. Yes, we need municipal, provincial and federal representatives who will question and hold all government officials accountable! That is a constitutional duty required from all Canadians, which is in need of restoration.

Send me to the mayor’s seat Charles. Open invitation to visit. And I can do some interesting things with the official mayor’s letterhead. ;)

We should not base our decision on one vote. I personally am in favour of the CBRM receiving a greater share. A united effort is certainly needed. We are currently concerned with dozens of people and their families and some handicapped people getting stuck on a sand fall on the road to the Big Glace Bay Beach! All I ask is for a warning sign and or some gravel! Can he do that as deputy mayor! Let's see!

I don't think it got his attention as councillor for the area, so I wouldn't hold my breath. Too busy lobbying for Kameron Coal to deal with real issues.

James Edwards couldn't be trusted to represent his constituents as councillor. Many of his constituents were affected by Donkin Mine's low frequency noise, destroyed road and noise/road hazards arising from heavy truck traffic. James turned a blind eye to those constituents and instead became the face and voice of Kameron Coal. He advertises his position on Donkin Mine Community Liaison Committee as being an example of his experience representing the community where in fact he is more a Kameron Coal lobbyist than impartial community representative. https://capebretonspectator.com/2023/05/03/donkin-mine-fire-edwards-kameron/ He openly advocates for the province to put Kameron Coal's interests before safety. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/donkin-mine-remains-closed-despite-provincial-ok-to-resume-1.7219869 When he proposed a study into selling Center 200 presumably to the current team owner, he failed to disclose his close ties with team owner and the fact that he was a former team employee which placed him in a conflict of interest position. https://capebretonspectator.com/2022/11/09/edwards-macdonald-staff-report/ https://chl.ca/lhjmq-eagles/james-edwards-joins-eagles-as-manager-of-corporate-and-community-partnerships/ Mr. Edwards has a very thin skin. Many constituents who have been critical of his actions as councillor have found themselves banned from his Facebook page and their subsequent concerns ignored. Mr. Edwards was frustrated by protesters at Donkin Mine in the occasion of one of the Community Liaison Committee meetings and drive his vehicle in a careless manner bumping one of the protesters with his truck. My own experience with Edwards involved him physically threatening me over an issue between my dog and his step-daughter's dog. During the incident, James, his wife Paula and step-daughter were all shouting expletives in the middle of a public street while James threatened me in front of my 7 year old daughter.
