A local group called Island Angels has a program for loaning prom gowns to students for no charge.

Here is the description of the program provided by representative Renee Smith:

"Simply message our Facebook page - Island Angels, and one of my volunteers will schedule an appointment for the student to come try on gowns in our home in Sydney Mines. Each student is booked an hour, no other students are present. The gowns will all be steamed. Once the student picks a gown we bag it and tag it with the student's name, they pick up the dress from us in May.

And the only condition is that we ask parents and students to please return the gown within a week after prom so someone else can wear it next year."

The group says it's the busy season for bookings but allows interested students to put their names on a waiting list as some cancellations may occur.
