Jay Bedford - Celebrating 50 Years In Radio

Although he has worked in markets across Canada, Ottawa, ON native Jay Bedford has chosen to live where he feels at home – right here on Cape Breton Island.

Jay (AKA “JayBird”) started his radio career 50 years ago in St. Jerome, Quebec before moving to Antigonish, NS to attend St. Francis Xavier University.  Once there, he dropped out of school to work full time at CJFX Radio.

In 1971, Sydney radio station CHER offered Jay a job, and he moved to the Island to host a radio show.  His success opened doors at other radio stations across the country, and he worked for several years in Alberta and Ontario, before returning back home to Cape Breton.

In 2008, Jay co-founded the new Country Music station 103.5 The Eagle in Sydney, which has since been rebranded as New Country 103.5.  Even after fifty years in broadcasting, Jay looks still forward to being on air and shows no signs of slowing down.

We wish you many more years, JayBird!
