Kim Sheppard, Candidate for District 12

My name is Kim Sheppard and I would like to tell you a little about myself and what type of representation you could expect from me as a Councillor in CBRM. I was born and raised in Whitney Pier. I also have raised my own family and continue to reside here today. I feel blessed to be born and raised in such a diverse community. By living here, I have been given an education you cannot receive in the school system. I have learned about various cultures and the strength that people develop to fight back when they are pushed to their limits. This kind of strength was passed down to the residents of Whitney Pier and surrounding areas. I am very proud of my community and although I am running in District 12, if elected, I will be representing CBRM as a whole. I look forward to the challenge. I am currently employed with Nova Scotia Health Authority (Mental Health/Addiction Services). I am an avid volunteer in our community with Habitat for Humanity, St. Alban’s Parish Council and I am an active member in the Labour movement. When you are out among the community you see what is needed and you hear people’s concerns. There are a lot of issues currently in CBRM and I want to be part of a team that will take on the task of resolving these issues. I am an honest person who is hard-working and do not consider myself a “Yes Woman”. I will not be afraid to stand up for the rights of the people and I will keep asking question until I am content with the answer. I am NOT perfect and I have made plenty of mistakes throughout my lifetime, but I have learned from each and every one of them. I have learned so much from past mistakes, I just might make a few more. As a Candidate I WILL NOT: * Make promises that I cannot keep. * I will not tell you that I am going to look into an issue, if I don’t intend to. * I will not agree with council if I am not 100 % certain with my decision. * I will not tell you that once elected I am going to make this change or that change just so that you will vote for me. * I will not attack other candidates with name-calling or critical remarks. I hope to be elected on my qualities not by putting down others. As an Elected Official I WILL: * I will speak on behalf of your issues and concerns and I will be honest in my response to you, even if it is not the answer you want. * I will contact the person who is most capable of helping with your issue and I WILL follow up until I have an adequate answer. * I will do my best to help make CBRM a more sustainable community through economic development. * I will fight for transparency in the municipality in regards to: salaries, expenses and budget spending. * I will provide CBRM residents with a representation that is honest and effective. It is time for change in the CBRM council and we need some new voices and some innovative ideas. We need a team that will work together to bring positive changes to our communities and I believe that I could be a vital member of that team. If elected, I look forward to serving you as your Council representative. If you would like to contact me with any questions or concerns, I can be reached at 902-578-3115 or by email: [email protected] Follow my campaign trail on Face Book...........Vote Kim Sheppard for District 12 CBRM Council

Very impressed with somebody that isn't even elected and takes it upon herself to contact a company about a major environmental problem developing in her community. Well done Kim Kim Sheppard August 31, 2016 - 13:07 I totally agree that we should be quite concerned with another or "bigger" pile of coal sitting along our harbor and surrounding neighborhoods. I have great concerns about breathing in the coal dust particles and I thank you for the information on CWP. I am a resident of one of these neighborhoods and I have just recently contacted Logistec corporate office asking for their plan for "dust suppression" . I informed them about how our homes are filled with coal dust on a daily basis and explained how we, as a community are becoming very agitated and we will soon be demanding answers and solutions. We'll have to await a response.......if any!
