With Mackerel fishing starting to improve, Cape Bretoner Shaun Parks created a Facebook group to help share information with other fishing enthusiasts. The group offers a place to share photos of catches, tell others where the mackerel are currently running, as well as general discussion about tides, weather conditions, and mackerel fishing basics (regulations, limits, jigs).

The group also helps remind others when fishing is permitted at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion in downtown Sydney. The dock is closed to public fishing on days when cruise ships or other vessels are at the dock but allows fishing on other days.
