My name is Amanda McDougall, a resident of beautiful Main-a-Dieu and I am looking for your support in the 2016 Cape Breton Regional Municipality election in becoming your new Councillor for District 8. 

I have been employed in the non-profit sector through various positions since graduating from Cape Breton University with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. My educational career allowed me to travel to remote communities around the world and work on my skills in community economic development and advocacy. These experiences brought me to my passion; home to Cape Breton where I work each day to help our communities thrive and grow. 

I know I have what it takes to be a fair, honest voice for District 8 and am excited about the opportunity this election is giving me in getting to know the people from the communities that make up our area. I am aware of the issues but also recognize our strengths, and know what it takes to engage the District and see us work as a whole and strengthen our communities alongside one another. 

My role in the campaign to remove the MV Miner from the shores of Scaterie, to the various Board positions I hold in organizations such as the Fortress of Louisbourg Association, The Main-a-Dieu Community Development Association and the C@P Society of Cape Breton have taught me the skills I need to work within our District and across Council to move us forward towards a more sustainable future.
