MEN OF THE DEEPS SEEKING NEW CHOIR MEMBERS

World famous group is now accepting applications for auditions

SINGERS WANTED – North America’s only coal miners chorus are looking excitedly towards their busy future and are hoping to audition some new choir members.

Men of the Deeps (MOTD) Conductor and Business Manager Stephen Muise says the recruitment of new voices is needed to maintain the strength of the choir. “We had barely finished a very successful Christmas tour in 2019 when we were approached by another promoter for a southern Ontario tour in the Fall of 2020, so we’re planning a brand new CD project and we’d like to have a few new voices to add to the mix,” said Muise.

As island ambassadors, the members say they will always push to replenish their ranks, so that our unique Cape Breton culture and history continues to be shared and celebrated through music and storytelling. 

The process of auditioning for the world famous choir starts with submitting an application, available for download at menofthedeeps.com, or by calling select members of the executive. Contact information is included below. 

Once the application is approved, audition details will be communicated to successful applicants, who will be invited to perform a song of their choice.  Piano accompaniment can be provided. Sheet music is welcome but not necessary and anyone who plays an acoustic instrument is encouraged to take it to the audition.

Group President John MacLeod explains, “All applicants should have at least 2 years of experience in or around a coal mine. We are the only choir where the second requirement is to be able to sing. The first is that you need to represent as a miner,” said MacLeod. 

The group also invites anyone who previously applied to re-apply, as past applications have expired. "We urge anyone who fits the criteria to submit an application," added Muise. "Our needs are always changing, so even if you've tried out before, you’re welcome to try again." Deadline for application submissions is Sunday, March 08/20.
