The demolition of the Mira Gut Bridge was a major loss to the community. As all ageing infrastructure eventually reaches its intended lifespan, there are certainly ways to better manage upgrade and replacement.

Instead of leaving the mouth of the Mira River empty of an important part of its history, engineering plans should have been prepared in advance for its replacement. Ideally, construction of the next bridge could have commenced immediately after the demolition.
This would have minimized the time the community spends split in two, with a major tourism route severed for years.
We have to make sure this pattern of essentially letting our infrastructure fall apart before we take action doesn't continue to repeat itself. And this requires better leadership acting on our behalf.
