The NSEF’s newest board member, Jennifer MacDonald, has written a song about equalization.
Jennifer is a local musician/music teacher here in Sydney. Jennifer always had an interest in politics and majored in Political Science along with her teaching degree. She is particularly passionate about the politics of inequality and how it is affecting our island.
Here are the lyrics:
Let Them Eat Cake
Let them eat cake
We don't frigging care
We'd rather the province
Didn't even go there
We'll take all their money
And give them the scraps
What we do with the funding
Will be kept under wraps
No account taken
Of our fair share
Nobody's watching
They wouldn't dare
Keep it for Halifax
The jewel in the crown
Centralize the resources
To keep the rest down
They know no politician
Will fight for what's right
Yes men and women
With pensions in sight
Year after year
Settling for less
The foundations declining
The place is a mess
People drowning in taxes
While their services lack
Province takes money
But they're not giving back
Cape Breton is fading
In front of our eyes
Will we sit complacent
As our island dies?
