It certainly has been a beautiful stretch of weather! In the satellite image above, you can see a large swath of clear skies over our region. A ridge of high pressure to our south has pushed a plume of warm, dry air northeastward over the Maritimes.

Although this heatwave does not have the same shocking impacts as a damaging storm, meteorologically it is still very significant. Setting monthly and provincial temperature records is relatively rare. These temperature patterns are reminiscent of what was experienced in the 1930’s and 1940’s when many of our maximum temperature records were set. Several of which have been surpassed over the last 10 years. Drier than normal conditions in New England and eastern Canada have helped in making heat and cold events all the more record-breaking this year. Some of you might remember that long spell of unusually cold conditions from late April to mid May.
