One of my priorities for District 5 Economic Growth

One of my priorities for District 5, Economic Growth: I will continue to work to strengthen District 5 by supporting opportunities such as tri-party partnership with CBRM, Membertou and Eskasoni creating jobs that are in the best interest of our communities fostering growth ensuring a brighter future for residents of District 5 and all of CBRM. I believe moving forward with various port projects both public and private are necessary to growing existing businesses and encouraging new growth by pursuing business partnerships that are interested in diversifying our economy, investing in our communities and building a successful municipality.

Hello everyone. I would like to share a story about Eldon being a good Constituency Guy. There is a small municipal parkette in front of our property that has flower garden and a "Welcome to Sydney" sign on it. It is located on the Downtown Sydney Walking Loop - a sidewalk pathway used by tourists. A great many of them stop at the parkette to take pictures of themselves by the sign. I had an issue with the garden under the Welcome sign. It is poorly maintained. It's pretty much just a weed patch with a couple of perennials in it. My partner Karen and I often weed it ourselves - filling a large green bin with weeds every time. By comparison, the rock garden right across the street in Wentworth Park gets quite a lot of attention and generally looks very attractive. Karen and I conceived a plan to take care of this garden in perpetuity if CBRM Parks and Recreation would provide the materials to fix it up. We contacted Eldon, our municipal councilor, who took our offer to heart and arranged for us to meet with Bill Murphy, who was (and maybe still is) the head of CBRM Parks and Recreation. Eldon showed up for the meeting and was very supportive of our plan. Unfortunately, Bill Murphy was less enthused and our proposed initiative went no-where. However, I did, and still do, appreciate that Eldon went to bat for us and arranged the meeting. I am also pleased to see Eldon embracing the goCapeBreton website to express his own vision for District 5 and the municipality, and to address people's questions. As I think some of you know, the goCapeBreton website is an example of the lokol (pronounced "local") crowd-sourced news platform - a web-based technology solution developed by Sydney-based MediaSpark Inc. Like many other tech solutions being developed in the CBRM, the lokol platform has tremendous potential to generate wealth and influence for Cape Bretoners. Eldon, I am pleased to see you (and others) supporting goCapeBreton and the local tech industry.
