HAT Joins Global Musical Theatre Initiative This November

When the pandemic first hit, live theatre across the globe came to a stand still.

Locally, the Highland Arts Theatre (the HAT) was no exception. Slowly but surely, while navigating several waves of shut downs, solutions were found. Small casts, putting on small intimate shows, for even more intimate (socially distanced) crowds. It got us through but was a far cry from the vast spectacle and community that theatre has dependably offered throughout history.

Now, 20 months later, Musical Theatre International (MTI) has put out the call for theatres across the globe to unite and officially say, “Theatre is BACK! In all its glory”!

Widely known as the world’s leading theatrical licensing agency, MTI grants theatres the rights to perform and produce the greatest selection of musicals from Broadway and beyond. They’ve assembled some of their greatest selections into one jam packed celebration of a show known as All Together Now!  - an evening of Broadway melodies offered as an invitation for theatres to join forces and make a statement from November 12th-15th 2021.

Full audiences. Full stages. Spectacle, community, music!

The HAT is one of over 2,500 theatres across the world, from over 40 countries including all 50 states to accept that invitation. Featuring HAT favourites and a plethora of up-and-coming talent from the HAT Academy, this is the biggest show the downtown theatre has been able to produce since before March 2020.

“It really feels like a dream returning to this place of full audiences again,” said Artistic and Executive Director Wesley J. Colford. “To perform the songs we all know and love while the same thing is happening across all time zones with the same passion and same spirit of celebration? That is community, and that is the magic of live theatre.”

The sprawling cast is directed by Colford, music directed by Suzanne Doane and Ashley Buckingham, with choreography from Cynthia Vokey and Susan Gallop, and acting coaching from Holly Schaller and Rachael Murphy.

All Together Now! will run Friday the 12th to Monday the 15th at 7:30PM, with matinees at 3:30PM on the 13th and 14th, and a live-streamed performance on Facebook and Youtube at 7:30PM AST on the 12th.

Tickets to the show are provided free of charge thanks to the theatre’s Radical Access program and can be booked by calling the HAT Box Office (open 12PM-6PM, Monday to Friday) at (902) 565-3637 or online 24-hours a day at www.highlandartstheare.com
