On Friday May 10, 2024 shortly before midnight Cape Breton Regional Police Service Central Division officers responded to a report of an unconscious male near the intersection of Duke and State Street in Sydney.

Upon arrival police located an unresponsive 51yr old male who appeared to have suffered a serious injury. The male was medically treated and transported to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital by EHS Paramedics. The male victim died later in Hospital.

As a result of the initial investigation a suspect was arrested in the early morning of May 11, 2024. A 49 year old Sydney man will be charged with Manslaughter and remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Facility scheduled to appear at the Sydney Justice Center Monday May 13, 2024 at 10am.
