Police investigating swastikas painted on roadway

Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating the painting of swastikas on Lingan Road, near Linview Drive in Whitney Pier, Sydney. Police were contacted by a resident Wednesday morning, July 30th, who observed the paintings; with assistance from CBRM Public Works, police had the paintings removed immediately. Officers conducted a neighborhood canvass and noted no additional damage in the area, including the Hebrew Cemetery; the incident has been referred to the Community Safety Unit for investigation and police will be conducting extra patrols in the area. Cape Breton Regional Police do not tolerate incidents of hate and takes investigation of these criminal acts very seriously. Anyone with information about who might be responsible for the paintings, or who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area in previous days is asked to please contact police at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers. -30- Desiree Magnus Communications / PR Advisor Cape Breton Regional Police Service
