Portuguese Man O' War Found At Louisbourg's Kennington Cove Beach

Cape Bretoner, Wendy Russell, is giving a heads up to the public about a dangerous discovery she made at Kennington Cove Beach in Louisbourg. While visiting the beach, she happened upon two portugese man o' war on the sand.

Their beautiful color will draw the interest of all curious beach goers. However, they should not be touched. They are called the "floating terror" for a reason.

Their tentacles are venomous, severely painful, and in rare cases can be deadly. According to Wikipedia, the effects of the venom on the human body can be similar to that of an allergic reaction: swelling of the larynx, airway blockage, cardiac distress, or even an inability to breathe.

So these are not just beautiful blue jellyfish. In fact, it's not a jellyfish at all. They are dangerous and their tentacles can still sting even after the creature is washed up and dead on the beach. Take caution to avoid them in the water or on the beach if you ever discover one.
