Premier Stephen MacNeil on Equalization...WOW!

Premier Stephen MacNeil on Equalization...WOW!

The Premier's angry response tells those outside the capitol region that there will be no fairness in the distribution of the Federal Equalization payments.

Towns and communities will continue to die in rural Nova Scotia under this Provincial Government.

We need to step it up!!!!!

Out of $700 million being spent (which would not happen unless Cape Breton was screaming loudly), how much is going to create long-term, family sustaining employment opportunities. There will be some initial construction employment but nothing long-term. CBRM and Cape Breton needs opportunities in economic development and taxation lowered (which is why the province receives Equalization in the first place). This premier answers to the people of the province and the fact that he gets upset when asked about Equalization, just shows the rest of us that he has something to hide. Keeping Cape Breton in a dire situation only ensures Equalization to continue to flow into provincial coffers. If we got on our feet and we had a robust economy, then the Equalization would not be sent to Nova Scotia. How much would the provincial government be spending here if there was no election just around the corner? Why do they centralize all government jobs in Halifax and not share these much needed positions around the province? Why does CBRM only receive $15 million out of $2 billion. Do not be fooled people. Continue to stand up for CBRM and Cape Breton, it is our only hope.

How many hundreds of million do we pay the provincial government every year in income tax (personal and business), sales tax, and provincial fees, etc? $700 Million is a nice number to impress the people who don't pay much attention to politics or know the amount of money that flows away from citizens each year, but it's only about $70 Million a year over the duration of the projects that make up for this spending. It's nice to have investments. But, we pay for it. We pay for it with every paycheque and every time we swipe or tap our card at a register.
