Three Men in a Boat
Sept. 27 to Oct.1 @ 8pm
Theatre-goers in Sydney, NS are in for a treat if they catch a performance of Three Men in a Boat, playing till October 1st at the Highland Arts Theatre on Bentinck Street.
Three English toffs, tired of lives of comfort and leisure, decide that a bit of fresh air and exercise is just the ticket to cure their boredom. They seize upon a seemingly capital idea, and embark upon a mild (mis)adventure for which they are singularly ill-prepared. "Lads, let's hire a rowboat and spend a fortnight punting up the Thames!"
What ensues is an evening of physical comedy, rapier-like wit, and general hilarity delivered by three very talented and energetic young actors (and their dog, Montmorency). The props are minimal, but the situations are truly funny and the timing impeccable.
This 75 minute, one-act play debuted at the Toronto Fringe Festival and walked away with awards for Best Production, Best Ensemble, Best Direction, and Best Design. Written by Jerome K. Jerome, adapted by Mark Brownell, and directed by Sue Miner, it stars Matt Pilipiak as Jay, Victor Popinko as George, and Scott Garland as Harris.
Bottom Line: If you enjoy silly British humour and are looking for light-hearted fare, then Three Men in a Boat is a great evening out and well worth the investment IMHO.
