Bruce Massey Jr. looks over his options against the Saint John Riptide
The Highlanders scored early, taking a 5 to 0 lead to start the game, but baskets became hard to find for both teams, leaving Riptide fans standing for six minutes waiting for their team’s first basket. The Riptide broke through however, and led at the end of the first quarter, 20 - 8.
The Highlanders scored early again in the second quarter and played good basketball throughout, but could not close the gap in the score and trailed 44 - 30 at the half.
The Riptide took over after the break as the Highlanders struggled to make baskets from the field. The Highlanders were successful in drawing fouls and played effective coverage defense but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Riptide from extending their lead, 74 - 55 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, The Highlanders struggles from the field continued and their defence could not contain the consistent offense of the Riptide. The Highlanders dropped their sixth game in a row, 107 - 93.
The Riptide were led by Malcolm Miller, who scored 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Aaron Redpath scored 17 points, with 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while Brandon Boudry had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jeremiah Mordi achieved a double-double with 12 points, and a team-high 14 rebounds. Mordi also had a team-high in assists with 9. Former Highlander Aly Ahmed scored 11 points, with 5 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Bruce Massey Jr. led the way for the Highlanders with 37 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists, and Rick Bodiford had 25 points with 5 rebounds. Jamal Reynolds had 9 points and Tydran Beaty had 8 points, both players recorded 5 rebounds and 1 assist. Cordell Jeanty had a team-high 9 rebounds.
