Rita's Tea Room announced on Facebook that it will not be opening next season after more than thirty years in operation in Big Pond.

However, a new Sydney location will be opened and will include a gift shop, displays and information about Rita MacNeil's story, as well as a seating area for tea, biscuits, and desserts. The location will be at a shared space with the Cape Breton Fudge Company.
