Cape Breton Regional Municipality is refusing to release the results of a wellness survey of its first responders, but the union representing police says it's no secret that officer morale is in the tank.

CBRM says it is keeping the survey of police, firefighters, dispatch operators, jailers and records staff confidential, because it does not want the data to be misinterpreted.

Something really stinks at the "rats nest" commonly know as the Civic Center. Our first responders have a tough job and are extremely important to our precious community. When I read an article like this I am concerned, not only about the moral issue but the fact that this report is not being released to the public. The administration at our Civic Center seem to forget that we pay their salaries and in fact paid for the survey that produced these results. They should have no choice as to whether to release the results to the public or not and council should immediately call for a vote to release the results. We expect council to keep an eye on the nonsense that goes on far too frequently down at the Esplanade And Council........we hired you,pay you and can fire you.

New/old Mayor, same old *****, stop the secrecy and do, just do, something. Pretend it's the downtown Sydney, fire station that no one wanted in that location and do, just do, something! By the way, where's our downtown Sydney central library? You know Councilors, the one Council's been talking about for 20 or so years. The one the first Mayor Clarke in 2019 was getting right on it? Here's my suggestion as a taxpayer property owner. Take the Centre 200 location and create an arts and sports centre with a Central Library and state of the art rooms. The Arts Centre should include spaces for the Cape Breton Orchestra, dance groups, art gallery. The Sports Complex should include hockey and basketball space. Maybe, consider a Convention Centre with the Casino's participation. The land is there and available and of course should include parking under or above ground.

Lets all reflect back on what the Chief of Police said in a March 29/23 CBC article: "Chief Robert Walsh says the force's normal complement is 200 officers, but it is currently short 24 and it is becoming increasingly difficult to attract replacements, even those coming right out of school." I found that hard to swallow back then and even more so now.You mean to tell me there aren't young men and women out there who want to be Police Officers. If this is true maybe Cop Management gotta look at their requirements, like the secret one{or maybe not so secret} that floats constantly around our community gathering places.I know folks know which requirement I am talking about.
