Nova Scotia's deputy minister of public works says government officials are reviewing a report on commuter rail in Cape Breton to determine what track to take.

Paul LaFleche told members of the legislature's public accounts committee on Wednesday that a draft version of the study was delivered to the province earlier this week.

"It's a significant study," LaFleche told MLAs, stressing that the focus is commuter rail in the Sydney area.

Well healed minicipalities worldwide can't afford something like this but we can?????There's track maintenance, train maintenance, inside and outside staff, specific expertise, and on and on and true this is coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about the many more obstacles that come with a venture like this.CBRM has an ever improving infrastructure in place for public transportation.Deep six this crazy and BUY SOME MORE BUSES.

We would be much better served if it was turned into an Active Trail, which allowed e-Bikes for commuters. In the mean time, the Rail Company, which hasn't had a train for almost 10 years, prevents development and property owners from building along Rte 223, and Govt., ignores the issue. CB will never get ahead as long as we tenaciously hold on to the past, and dream of a 'big industry' salvation or a phanstasmagorical container terminal.

If you can't let the past go you can't move forward.

It remains a huge handicap, and is also a leadership issue. A few weeks ago we had MLA Mombourquette writing that he wants to present a Bill to protect the railway, (I guess forever), and another group wanting to rebuild it! If either did their homework, they'd know that it would cost over half a BILLION $ to do that, and you still wouldn't have any customers. If we had all the money wasted on the Phantasmagorical Container Terminal and the Railway, you could make some real progress on a lot of things!

OUR money{including the $600.000+for the railroad study} means nothing to a lot of these folks.I heard yesterday that staff normally laid off after hockey season are now being kept on and two cops, one 70 and one 75 took their pensions and were hired back on the force,in other words double dipping which is illegal in a lot of governments in various jurisdictions.
