Board chair Frank Howell says a replacement was approved and ready to go for the MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney, N.S., but last month the government put the project on hold. (Tom Ayers/CBC) The Nova Scotia government is putting construction of a new Cape Breton seniors' home on hold for up to two years, saying there's too many projects already on the go. MY OPINION Is this a case of Cape Breton being put on the back burner AGAIN??? With doing a bit of research, I was amazed how 6 NEW long term facilities began building in 2023 and are all scheduled to open in 2025 in HALIFAX. Did not notice or read that any of these buildings were put on hold because of too many infrastructure projects going on. This MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney is 58 years old with unacceptable safe regulations that has been brought to the forefront. You can bet your life on it, the 6 new senior homes are not the only infrastructure buildings taken place in Halifax. Really makes me wonder exactly why government always has an excuse for Cape Breton lack of progress, a respectable time frame when it comes to what is needed here. When a decision has been made for our facilities, it takes 7 or more years to build, but in Halifax these places are being built in 3 or 4 years. That’s rather interesting I’d say.
