RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton, with assistance of Cape Breton Regional Police Service, is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on 125 Hwy. near Point Edward.

On March 30, just before 6 p.m., RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton, Cape Breton Regional Police Service, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Hwy. 125 near Point Edward. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a Honda Civic with extensive damage consistent with having overturned. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the Civic, a 20-year-old Sydney man, had been ejected from the car. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the crash. The investigation remains ongoing and is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

Hwy. 125 was closed for several hours and has since reopened.

Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones as this difficult time.
