Sailing Charters Promote Awareness of Island Ecosystem

Captain Greg Silver aboard Misty Cat

Cape Breton Sailing Charters in St.Peter’s offers passengers more than just a day on the water. Captain Greg Silver has also made it his personal mission to educate people about the Bras d’Or Lake and its designation as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

“Our goal is to provide our visitors with a rich experience. We want to show them parts of Cape Breton only seen from the water, and teach sailing skills,” said Greg. “But we also tell them why Cape Breton is such a special place, and how UNESCO has recognized that.”

While aboard Misty Cat, cruisers may also be treated to fine cuisine and live music courtesy of Greg’s fiddle. Online reviews have indicated that the mix of hands-on sailing, cultural experiences, and ecological education is a winning combination.

“Tourism has changed in recent years,” said Greg. “As well as enjoying the sail, visitors also want to learn about the culture and history of the place they are visiting, and make real connections with people. Sharing the Island with visitors is something we love doing, so it’s win-win.”
