The Savoy Theatre aims to please...

Cape Breton — The Savoy Theatre is busy preparing for their next upcoming musical, sure to be a hit with all ages, CINDERELLA. Alongside making this show a success, staff at the theatre have also been working hard to secure the rights to another popular musical, since, according to the Savoy's Executive Director, Pam Leader, audiences never stop requesting the Savoy bring it back!

That musical is the runaway hit, MAMMA MIA!

The highly-popular show landed on the Savoy stage in June of 2018 compliments of Neptune Theatre.  “At that time, since Neptune was already doing it, we were more than happy to have them bring their version of it here and audiences went absolutely crazy for it. But we’ve always wanted to try it with an all local Cape Breton cast, and people never stop asking for it,” said Leader. “We were finally able to secure the rights for 2021… and so we’re excited to announce, we’re going to bring it back with a local cast!”

In celebration of the news, the Savoy is offering a February Special Ticket Package. Anyone who purchases a regular-priced ticket to see the new upcoming musical CINDERELLA, playing at the Savoy this April, will have an opportunity to purchase a ticket for MAMMA MIA at half price! That’s a savings of almost $30. Tickets for Mamma Mia go on sale Tuesday, February 18. The Savoy is also offering the deal to anyone who previously purchased tickets to CINDERELLA. CINDERELLA has also been cast with local Cape Breton actors. “We’re fortunate to have an incredible pool of talent to draw from, and these types of shows allow us to employ people from our own communities, to do what they love to do, and take home a decent pay check for it,” said Leader. “That’s very important to us. It’s a large part of why we even exist.”

A full cast list announcement for CINDERELLA will be shared soon and more details about MAMMA MIA will also be forthcoming, but for now, ticket-buyers should consider taking advantage of the February Special Offer, which expires on February 28, 2020. “When you’re in the entertainment business, you have to live your life a year in advance of everyone else,” said Leader.

Cinderella was written by Jeremy Webb with Musical Arrangements by Lisa St. Clair. The production will be directed by Ron Jenkins and Musically Directed by Stephen Muise.
