Servicom has advised staff today that they are ceasing operations in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Media and police are on-site. Staff have been sent home. About 700 employees are affected.
Update: The closure affected over 600 employees today. The Cape Breton Post's Chris Shannon says the number was around 700 in October 2018, but the company's actions lead to 50-75 employees leaving the company.
Update: Mayor Clarke issued a statement via the CBRM's Facebook page. He says the municipality will support the employees and hopes that the situation may only last a few days. See the full statement here.
ServiCom had approximately 700 employees before Oct. 19 bankruptcy protection filing; after that employees started quitting in the range of 50 to 75; the call centre had ~600-625 employees as of this week.
