SHOP THE SAVOY THIS CHRISTMAS Great shows and Gift Certificates!

Cape Breton N.S. – Savoy Theatre management, staff and volunteers are very busy this holiday season producing big and small Christmas shows and events, hosting touring productions and helping shoppers check off their Christmas lists.

Executive Director Pam Leader says the mood is hopeful this Christmas and that’s bringing more people back into the theatre to enjoy live entertainment, “The magic of live performance is all around us this Christmas season. Watching people come through our doors with big smiles and hearing them laugh and sing as they exit a performance, that’s truly a gift to all of us,” she said.

The Savoy is also pleased to announce a great list of upcoming performances for the New Year and staff want to remind everyone that gift certificates make great stocking stuffers. “We’ve got a lot of exciting shows planned so we hope everyone will take a look at our list and purchase our Gift Certificates which never expire,” said Leader.

DEAR RITA - ENCORE PERFORMANCE

MAY 25 7:00 PM, MAY 26 7:00 PM, MAY 27 7:00 PM, MAY 28 2:00 PM

A musical celebration of Cape Breton’s first lady of song, Rita MacNeil — a fierce force of storytelling through song, who invited us to see ourselves in her struggles, strength, and vulnerability. How did Rita somehow tell “my” story — no matter your identity, location, age, or current mood? Rita herself said her life story is “something you could pretty well put anyone into. It’s about one person, but so many of us could be there.” Cape Breton playwright Lindsay Kyte was chosen by Rita’s son to develop this show, featuring a cast of six performers and band, and new, re-imagined arrangements of Rita’s music by PEI composer/musician Mike Ross. From Rita’s popular hits to the lesser-known songs that made her bandmates cry like babies, DEAR RITA weaves Rita’s lyrics into new perspectives and invites her spirit into the room as her songs live through our own experiences. Who is “Rita” in this show? It’s not one person. We all are — everyone on that stage, and everyone whose hearts she has touched with the musical prayers of her people.
