Since Their Service: Photography Exhibition Sheds Light on Veterans Affairs Office Closure
Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design is pleased to introduce Since Their Service, an exhibition by photographer Charlie Morrison. The public is invited to the opening reception for Since Their Service, which will take place Thursday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Centre. There will be a separate viewing for veterans, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.
Since Their Service is a photography exhibition that appeals to residents of Cape Breton that have been affected by the closure of the Veterans Affairs office in Sydney. Although Morrison is not a veteran, he holds great respect for those who have served and wants to contribute in the only way he knows how – through photography.
“This project has been a big part of my life for the last 18 months and I'm thrilled to finally have the opportunity to display my work,” says Charlie Morrison, photographer. “Myself, along with many others, were concerned and disappointed by the Veterans Affairs Office closure, so this exhibit is designed to shed just a little more light on the issue at hand. The participants in this exhibit opened a window into their lives, which is just another in a long list of brave acts, all of which I am grateful for.”
“The Centre is honoured to host this photographic exhibition. It is important for cultural organizations to provide a space for continued dialogue on such a significant subject to our community,” says Lori Burke, Executive Director at Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design. “Since Their Service is an extremely meaningful and timely project that pays tribute to our community’s veterans.”
Charlie Morrison practices paramedicine and has been taking photographs for over 15 years. Charlie has learned his techniques from trial and error, reading, exposing himself to new challenges and associating himself with other professional photographers in Cape Breton. Charlie shoots in both black and white as well as colour, with varying subject matters including scenic, street, travel, wildlife and socially conscious photography.
Since Their Service will be displayed in the Centre’s Loft until August 14, 2015.
