SUDDEN BRIDGE CLOSURE, Nov. 30, 2018: Cranton Bridge in Margaree Centre
Message from Marla MacInnis, Media Relations Advisor, Province of Nova Scotia
Cranton Bridge in Margaree Centre will be closed due to safety concerns beginning tonight (Nov. 30, 2018). The bridge had been identified for replacement in 2019 and has been monitored closely leading up to the start of this work. A recent inspection found that the bridge’s condition was deteriorating and was at risk of further damage through the winter storm season.
The bridge is currently a timber bridge but will be replaced in the new year with a single span steel trust bridge. A tender will be issued in the spring, and we hope to have environmental permits related to the river in place to begin construction in June 2019.
In the meantime, motorists are encouraged to use the new bridge, further up the river, via East Big Intervale Road, Crowdis Cross Road and West Big Intervale Road. We apologize for the inconvenience of this closure to road users and look forward to having the new bridge in place for the community.
