The Fourth Annual Susan D Jamboree took place on August 5th, 2017 at the Veterans' Memorial Field in New Waterford. The Soccer Jamboree promotes the experience of games without the competition.   

The Jamboree was named in honour of Susan Marsh-Deruelle, who passed away on January 25th, 2014. Susan was an enthusiastic sports mom and coach. Her presence was heard and felt at many sporting events where she would be cheering her support and encouragement from the sidelines. Susan worked tirelessly coaching in many sports and in her community. She gave her time and expertise freely to help others in many ways.  Her vibrant personality and kind heart touched many. She embodied team spirit, leadership, dedication, passion, friendship and fun in everything she did.  We encourage the athletes that participate in the Susan D Jamboree to remember those attributes and try to model them on and off the field in the future. 

The kids had an opportunity to learn about how the game of soccer is played through a festival format that creates excitement around the games. The objective of the “Susan D Jamboree” is to provide young players and their parents with a pressure-free introduction to the game of soccer.  

 A number of teams participated in the event from various clubs throughout the Cape Breton Soccer Association with each team playing three games. Games were scheduled throughout the day along with a free barbeque event at lunchtime. Participation awards were presented to each player by Susan's family.
