Sydney Target Store Has Entire Front Removed in Big Reno

It may not be easily visible in the photos, but the entire front 1/4 or 1/3 of the large Target store has been demolished, significantly reducing the square footage of the space.  It was reported previously that a call center is moving into the space.

It will be interesting to find out what the final result will look like!

It still bothers me that people refer to this as Target, as a former Zellers employee it hurts, lol ;) This was a Zellers store for over 50 years, Target barely occupied the space for 2 years. Zellers/Target was 105,000 square feet Servicom took 30,000 square feet at the back 30,000 space is going to broken up into smaller store fronts, I heard Montana's is moving into one of those spaces. Possibly Tim Hortons as well due to the call centre employing over 1000 people. The remaining 45,000 square feet should be removed in the next few days. The building front is going to get a rebuild that matches the rest of the complex. Seems like an awful waste thought tearing down a building that was fully renovated 3 years ago.

I guess they are trying to reduce their municipal tax assessment the hard way. Demolish a huge chunk of the square footage. ;)

Jason, I felt the same way when I saw it being demolished ... such a shame to lose so much prime space. Joe, I was thinking the same thing about the taxes. The entire mall building is assessed at $16 million whereas last year it was $18.7 million. With the reduced square footage, I assume it will drop quite a bit more. That must be a significant tax bill (and maintenance too). But, I guess it is better smaller and full than larger and empty.
