The Little Narrows gypsum plant won't be mining this summer as its future hangs in the balance.
The plant in Victoria County laid off 14 employees six months ago for the season shutdown and have not rehired any back. There are 21 employees on the payroll now and their focus will be on reclamation work.
Byron MacMillan, the plant's manager, blamed poor markets for the production shutdown. He said the remaining employees will not be mining gypsum. Instead they're focusing on reclamation work.
