The Middle Ground is a collective of local independent businesses that operate a market located on the second floor at 54 Prince Street in downtown Sydney (above Dr. Luke's). The nonprofit was started by Brittany Smith, who faced the same challenges that many small business owners face when starting up - getting access to retail space where customers can see and buy their products.

"I stared The Middle Ground as a way to help small, local businesses reach more customers by having their work permanently on display," said Brittany. "Like me, many were selling products out of their homes or at annual craft markets. Without regular access to customers, it's hard to grow your business."
The Middle Ground currently has 15 businesses who rent retail space, which includes a shared sales representative. Rent is based upon how much space the individual business owners require. Unlike galleries that typically charge a 35-50% commission, business owners only pay their monthly rent, and keep 100% of the revenue for any items they sell.
"We've been really happy with the community response to date," said Brittany. "During a recent popup sale, we had 400-500 people come through the door. In fact, we can foresee outgrowing our current space in the very near future."
Regular hours of operation are from 12 noon to 5pm Tuesday to Friday, and 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The Middle Ground is hosting a special popup sale on December 20th and 21st, and hosting more local producers to display their goods as well as their regulars.
