WAKE UP TO MUSIC MONDAY Featuring Steven MacDougall [VIDEO]

Wake Up to Music Monday

Cape Breton Island is known for its rich culture and its deep roots in music,

so every Monday I will feature videos showcasing Cape Breton Island's finest musicians from Fiddlers to Songwriters, to the Gaelic Song and the Rock n Roll!

Steven MacDougall

Steven MacDougall is internationally recognized as a hook driven and prolific song writer and a dynamic performing and recording artist. MacDougall’s songs draw on a vast and diverse musical vocabulary -- folk, country, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll -- all influenced by his Cape Breton musical roots and world-wide travels with his band, Slowcoaster

An accomplished writer and musician, MacDougall spends time co-writing in Nashville and has had covers with such artists as Jimmy Rankin and Gordie Sampson. MacDougall collaborations are widespread – from experienced Nashville writers to promising emerging writers on Canada’s East Coast – in a wide variety of genres. MacDougall’s most recent song writing project was a trip to the Austin/Denmark/Halifax “House of Songs” where he wrote 15 songs with 6 writers in just 7 days.

Steven MacDougall is the frontman and principal writer for the multi-award winning Cape Breton rock band, Slowcoaster, and has completed multiple national Canadian tours and tours of China and Japan. With his frequent collaborative music writing trips to Nashville, and recently to Austin, Texas, he is making International connections with other songwriters and fans.

In 2005, MacDougall worked with Gordie Sampson on Sampson’s album, "Sunburn," netting two co-writing credits. In 2007, he began making writing trips to Nashville, co-writing for Gordie Sampson’s record, "For the Few and Far Between" -- netting four co-writing credits and the start of a love affair with Music City that has resulted in more than 75 songs written there in the last year alone.

MacDougall has been Musical Director for the ECMA Awards Show and was a member of the three man writing team that composed the music for the 2010 Paralympic Games. MacDougall also shares his experience and talent every summer, teaching and mentoring young writers at The Gordie Sampson Songcamp.

MacDougall has shared the stage with Gordie Sampson, Bruce Guthro, J.P. Cormier, Lennie Gallant, Rita MacNeil, Matt Mays, Ron Hynes and many other luminaries.
