Was the CBRM really caught with their pants down?—E59 [VIDEO]

Episode 59 of a Cape Breton Podcast with Joe Ward, Boxer Shorts Media.

I wanted to take a shot at cutting through the distractions, to figure out why the CBRM seemed so unprepared when the Houston government presented the Bill 340 deal to us. This led me to even more questions.

Is it possible that Mayor McDougall's role with the NSFM (Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities) compromised our ability to successfully negotiate for the needs of the CBRM? There are indications that this may be the case, as I explore the lengthy acronym SERMGAR.

I will explain what it is, how Mayor McDougall was involved in its creation, and why it raises questions about whether 'they had this information to work with' or 'why they weren't more prepared if they had access to this information.'

We've seen the mayor's priorities on many issues: -be sneaky wherever possible to keep citizens confused -spend spare time attempting to convince citizens she's always right I don't know how most folks think but I see the priority as serving the clients.........us !!!!

They haven't been good at recognizing and/or managing conflicts of interest, and I think this whole NSFM thing has really been a source of unacceptable confusion. What comes for all municipalities not only might not work for us, or address our specific needs, but also will likely take far longer to achieve. We don't need to act in lockstep with them. That's not our priority. If anything, the years of halfheartedly groaning about getting a charter is a recognition of this. However, they've also been waffling on the charter recently too. Note: I did discover that some of the staff actually did create their own charter wishlist.
