We Must Stop Electing Unaccountable Politicians....

We sincerely hope that the community does not believe this political nonsense….. Here was Derek Mombourquette’s comments back in 2018 when he told the CBRM that he, as Minister of Municipal Affairs, was reviewing the municipality's operating grant. He flat out lied to the CBRM. Posted: May 8, 2018, 7:59 p.m. Minister weighs in on Cape Breton equalization controversy. “We’re also reviewing the municipality’s operating grant, and I’ve indicated that to the CBRM, but we’re doing it in conjunction with the writing of a charter for the CBRM, we’re working on a viability study for the CBRM for the long-term viability of the community, and we’re working on some other initiatives around their requests — everything I am doing is in concert and in partnership with the requests from the CBRM.” Then today we see this in the Post: If Derek Mombourquette was the Minister of Municipal Affairs in 2018 and was related to the Premier, Steven McNeil, no one was in a better position to see the CBRM’s funding agreement reviewed and fixed. But he did not. Now Zach Churchill, the leader of the NS Liberals, recognizes that we pay the highest taxes in the region, but he and the rest of the liberals wouldn’t listen to that comment when it came from the NSEF back in 2018. All they did was ignore, just like the Houston PC’s are doing now. If the liberals were elected again in the next election, we would then see Brian Comer and other CBRM PC MLAs saying the same thing as the liberals are now. Opposition members who had power in the past, like Alfie MacLeod, Eddie Orrell and Derek Mombourquette all speak up once their party is thrown out of power. Opposition members just play a game for their handsome salary and pensions, to seek re-election all at the expense of the taxpayers. In this undemocratic scam, the government plays a role, and the opposition plays a role and it reverses when the government changes power. These politicians are not our friends. They do not look out for our best interest. We certainly hope that the public does not fall again for this nonsense. It is time every voter, resident and municipal politician starts to call out these self-serving individuals for what they are. If we do not start to do things differently around here, nothing will ever change. They have a system going that has worked against us for decades here in the CBRM and the rest of rural Nova Scotia. Keep us over-taxed and our fiscal capacity poor and more equalization will be sent by Ottawa next year. When will we stop them? The NSEF
