I am reading a book by Clara Denis, published in1942, 2nd publication 1943. Very fascinating. She goes into every little town and village on the Island. The first date mentioned was on 1597, as told by ancestors of the first people landing in CB.

From where did you find this book? It sounds intriguing and may answer some long held questions.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the title of the book. It is "Cape Breton Away". It was given to me by a lady who lived in Cape Breton for a few years, her husband was Manager of the Royal bank in Sydney for a few years and he was an avid reader, especially History. Clara Denis was a member of the Nova Scotia Historical Society. You may want to check on the internet or the library. Her trip to Cape Breton was pre 1942 which was the first printing.
