Why Was Rodger Cuzner Appointed to the Senate?

Apparently, the rush to appoint 5 new senators to the senate by the federal Liberal government, with former Liberal Party MP Rodger Cuzner being one of them, is to act in a partisan way to defeat Bill 234, which is promoted by the Opposition Conservative Party. Now we learn that the prime minister’s earlier word was to depoliticize the Canadian Senate appointments was just another lie. This revelation is not surprising since he has made other commitments/promises that he quickly dismisses anyone who tries to question his sincerity. A couple of significant promises he has made but apparently never intended to deliver on are as follows: To end our undemocratic First-Past-The-Post electoral system and his election campaign promise to restore the federal funding of the 2014 health care cuts that former prime minister Harper made. These broken promises are symptoms of a dangerous denigration in our political system’s ability to really represent citizens. This should be obvious to the owners of the excessively high property tax rates in the CBRM. The recent political role reversal by Cape Breton’s former Liberal Party minister of municipal affairs Derek Mombourquette should be noted for his insincerity throughout his performance. And he certainly is not the only one trying to get this distinction in the award of dishonour. Both Conservative Party Minister Brian Comer and MLA John White played their roles as agents of government and not their excessively overburdened taxpayers. The efforts of NDP MLA Kendra Coombes have been encouraging but caution has to be taken because she is a member in the Opposition to the current government. Because the NDP history of the former premier Darrell Dexter NDP government is not any different than all of the previous governments regarding equalization distribution in this province. People must recall the never implemented two passed General Meeting resolutions of 2011 and 2012 by the Nova Scotia Liberal Party dealing with providing “an equal level of services and infrastructure to all regions of our province” and secondly, “That the Nova Scotia Liberal Party with the values of fairness and transparency in mind, and the significant dollars at stake for municipalities, and given the credibility of the office of the Auditor General of Nova Scotia, advance the cause of referring the question of the distribution of equalization payments to Nova Scotia’s Auditor General for an investigation of its merits. Sounds important doesn’t it. Was never mentioned again when returned to government, however.

Rodger Cuzner,in my humble opinion, was one of the best politicians who ever came out of Cape Breton. He was smart, savvy, loved by constituents{just look at the vote counts over the years},well connected as evidenced by him receiving the "most popular"award by parliament several times and never forgot his roots.Could be quite an asset in Ottawa for us.

Ray, being awarded an award by parliament is for the “most popular” is regarded by you as significant. Interesting. But what significant long term achievement can you list he got for this area besides being elected in this area? Remember he had 19 years to do something for this area.

I have no idea what his accomplishments were because I didn't pay any attention to politics back then and if I spotted anything noteworthy at the time I quickly forgot them.I do know that a lot of people went to him on a personal level, one on one and he looked after them. This kind of stuff never made the news.Having said that....I stand by my comments.
