Citizen Group Launches Their Own 2017 CBRM Budget Survey

A new volunteer citizen engagement group called Cape Breton Citizens' Voice has launched a supplementary 2017 budget survey for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

Take the CBRM Citizen Survey Here

The group is comprised of 13 women who all live and work in the CBRM. This survey is a part of their mission of engaging in community building activities.

Their survey was launched in response to the CBRM's January budget survey, which they felt was lacking.

"While we commend the municipality for taking steps to engage citizens, we felt that the survey was limited and that there were some questions missing - questions that could have better captured and expressed what makes life here unique, enticing, and meaningful" - Cape Breton Citizens' Voice

Please take the survey now. Have your voice heard.

I have seen a few names affiliated with the group while using the first person pronoun (women saying "we"), and I think two are on Mainstreet this afternoon, so we may hear more about it. The names I have seen are all young professional women, some know to be involved with political parties but not all the same party. I am going to be a little bit patient, until they present their findings at least, which is only today or tomorrow. In a way I think the survey is an excellent "coming out" activity as they are getting excellent press, and hell, if young women have to form their own clubs I guess we will at least have balance with the old boys. I am certainly going to pay attention to Mainstreet today.

It is so refreshing to see a group of Women trying to make a change in CBRM. Instead of sitting back and complaining they are doing something to stem change. As citizens of CBRM we've lost hope, our voices have not been heard and anyone who tries to speak up is branded as a loud mouth trouble maker who doesn't know what they are talking about. I applaud your effort and look forward to engaging with you in the future.
