Forrester School of Dance
The Forrester School of Dance will start their 53rd season commencing September 18th. Children & adults ages 4-94 are encouraged to sign up in one of several classes offered for beginner or advanced students. The popular adult step dance classes will once again continue & all beginners are welcome. The fun, fitness & camaraderie of these classes are evident with returning students year after year.
Highland Dance is one of the oldest forms of aerobic activity & traditional highland dance has been front & centre as a family tradition for over 70 years. Eileen Pottie Forrester started the dance school in 1965. Her sister's Sandra & Faith were heavily involved in highland dance both competing, performing & teaching dance here in Cape Breton & beyond. They were also bagpipers & drummers in local pipe bands & played during the opening of the Canso Causeway in 1955. It was a no brainer that their little sister Eileen Marie would continue to carry the torch & cultural tradition well after they retired from teaching. Alternatively, Eileen's daughter's Shannon, Shara & Shendle danced all their lives across Canada, United States, Europe & Asia & still perform when they get together. Her eldest daughter Shannon Forrester, who has been teaching alongside her mother for over 25 years is now front & centre as she continues to be a visionary in the arts with her production company Forrester Tartan Productions which has produced many shows for clients, including the successful concert series "Ceilidh on the Court" which in many cases partners artists who never collaborated before & it just works. The #COTC series also includes delicious offerings of delectibles from foodie DanMac from KiltedKuisine!
Stay tuned for more events in the near future.
