Joe Ward opened the Centre 200 debate for Sydney Glace Bay making one thing clear: His focus was going to be on using the federal toolbox for local issues.

He immediately challenged Anna Manley and Mike Kelloway on equalization. Both of them had ignored the Nova Scotians for Equalization Fairness who had asked both campaigns to express their positions. With that, Joe got both Anna and Mike on record. Mike expressed disagreement. Anna shocked many by suggesting that not only does she think Tim Houston should have carte blanche to spend the equalization funding as she sees fit, but also that she doesn't think Cape Breton needs any more government money. Joe had 9,371 votes for him in the mayor election and needs approximately 1,000 more votes in this election to defeat Kelloway and Manley. Let's get it right this time!
