Warning to St Peter's

This warning is in response to CBC's article: Two community groups vying to manage Cape Breton trail

Beware St. Peter's, off-road vehicles have no place in most "communities". St. Peter's is a beautiful village but will not be for long if you let off-road vehicles destroy it. They have destroyed our community in CBRM, District 10. Living in District 10 now means phoning the police constantly to report crimes committed by ATV riders (query police records for proof), constant noise, air pollution, destruction of land and general degradation of the quality of life. This is all well documented and the Mayor and CBRM council has access to the data. CBRM agreed to allow ATVs on what was promised to be an Active Transportation Trail. They did this behind the backs of the residents (Bait & Switch ). It is shameful and now there is a battle in our community amongst residents themselves and with politicians. Our police services are wasting resources chasing ATVs (query police records for proof) and the council is wasting taxpayers money fixing the destruction on the trail due to ATVs. Why? So Off-roaders can drive their non-essential toys from point A to Point B without loading onto a trailer or truck, that's all. Did I mention that residents did not ask for this and actually said "NO" on a taxpayer funded survey? NOTE: CBRM Police Services are doing a great job cleaning up the mess that CBRM council brought to our communities but this mess should never have been brought here or to St. Peters (IMHO)

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NET ECONOMIC BENEFIT TO A "COMMUNITY" BY ALLOWING ATVS TO ROAM THE STREETS...NONE!

It is a deception with no basis in reality. Hopefully elected officials and community development organizations in Richmond County are not spewing this BS. I have heard this in District 9/10 and immediately dispel it publicly for the tripe it is. If they want gas for their ATV they will buy it...if they want a Tim Hortons coffee they will buy it, they don't need to drive their non-essential toys all over the streets to get it.

You will regret not fighting this idiotic initiative to it's death. If you don't believe me read this warning from Ontario: A Warning From Ontario to CBRM

Property values in St. Peters will likely drop or be depressed if an off-road vehicle culture is adopted. See here: (Hurry! Feb 13th Deadline )

The pediatric association of Canada says that visits to emergency rooms and deaths will also increase in your community: All-terrain vehicle serious injuries and death in children and youth

Maintenance of an ATV Trail (Don't let them fool you with the term multi-use trail) is 3 times that of an Active Transportation trail. They are not maintaining it in properly in CBRM and it has caused injuries. Read here: CBRM: Harmful Policies...

IMHO: If your elected officials are backing this initiative, get rid of them or move now!. This is a sign of desperation, poor leadership and short shortsightedness. Other communities in Nova Scotia don't put up with this foolishness. By the way, they will hold up the BLT Trail as a model but it is not a success and it is costing taxpayers money, causing acrimony and is along a provincial highway (103) not cutting through beautiful villages like St. Peters. Tell them where to put that example if they bring it up.

Some videos showing what CBRM Council believes is good for our community (5 videos showing how disgusting (IMHO) District 9/10 is becoming)
